Our big tour takes in 3 separate areas of eastern Switzerland: one on the eastern edge of our usual tour area, one on the western edge and the third one south of our tour area. This makes it really easy to see all the best parts of this, Switzerland’s most beautiful corner.

The tour starts off with an overnight stop near Nancy in Eastern France before arriving at our first Swiss hotel for a 3 night stay.
This is the same hotel we use in our shorter tour so you can check out that tour to see what is on offer.

When we leave there on the Thursday morning, we will be heading south, down to the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, the Ticino, for our next 3 night stay in “the best classic Motel in Europe”.
This is a really great place to stay. Built in the fabulous fifties and fully restored and modernised in 2004 with room names such as Route 66, Philippe-Stark, Colonial-Cuba and the Botta-Room, the place just oozes 50’s charm. The owner even drives a 1956 Thunderbird along with a MotoGuzzi California and his everyday bike, a BMW Paris-Dakar.

25 of the rooms have their own garages directly beneath the room and these are the ones we will be staying in.
You can’t sleep much closer to your bike than that!

Oh, and the food’s good too!
This part of Switzerland has a very Mediterranean feel about it. Palm trees, lake side cafe bars and lots of hot sunshine help make this a very relaxed part of the tour. That’s not to say that there is no good riding round here. There is! Many winding valleys to follow that are nearly all dead ends up in the mountains and with usually an inviting Grotto (Taverna) waiting for you at the end.
You are also surrounded here by 3 very big lakes. Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano and Lake Como. Ideal for a gentle ride round the shores.

Situated right at the head of the National Park, the hotel is well placed for some great days out. For example, we could ride over to the duty free town of Samnaun which is tucked away up in the mountains right next to the Austrian border and is at the end of a long narrow winding road with some really old, dark and narrow tunnels. Quite an interesting ride!
Or we could pop over the Flüela pass and have a look at the towns of Davos and Klosters, Or have a ride over the fabulous Bernina pass, Or cross the border into Italy and visit Livigno - an Italian duty free zone, Or ride down through the National Park, Or...
The list is endless! You are assured of a good time up here and I bet you won’t want to leave.

After having now spent 9 nights up here in the Swiss alps you will have seen quite a lot, but believe me when I say there is an awful lot more still to be seen. We come back here year after year and always manage to surprise ourselves by finding something new.    That’s the magic of the Swiss Alps!

On Wednesday morning we say a very reluctant goodbye to the alps as we set off on the long ride home.
One more overnight stop in France before catching the early evening ferry on Thursday and the end of our holiday.

We hope you enjoyed the alps and look forward to seeing you again on another
